Client: Upsher-Smith Laboratories, Inc.

Show: Employee Holiday Celebration

Location: Pantages Theatre, Minneapolis, MN

Initiative: Create a Holiday Spectacular to cap off Upsher-Smith's annual employee celebration. Production must incorporate Broadway moments, traditional holiday songs, and photo projections of Upsher-Smith's employees, as well as customized lyrics for a traditional carol to reflect the spirit of the event. However, due to economic realities, the client requested to reduce the original budget by 20% to meet new cost limitations.

Solution: To achieve Upsher-Smith's requests at a limited budget, and not sacrifice a high-energy event, our Broadway director created highly choreographed moments, including an intense "tap off" where our expert performers battled with applause-inducing dancing.  Hot On Broadway also identified instantly recognizable songs from Rent, Jersey Boys, and Mamma Miaas well as seasonal classics like "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Baby It's Cold Outside" and "Santa Baby" to create a customized running order that naturally flowed into an exciting finish.  To reduce production expenses, we engaged a talented group of Broadway professionals who could all sing and dance with equal ease, thereby allowing us to create full company numbers with a minimum number of people. And instead of building newly constructed scenery, we designed extensive projection montages of seasonal images, local Minneapolis favorite locales, and Broadway and New York scenes to support the songs being performed and deliver a visually large production

Results: A holiday present for the whole company!  With a cast from Broadway shows including  The Producers, Mary Poppins, Grease, A Chorus Line, Wicked,and Hairspray, our performers were second-to-none.  For a finale, we turned "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" into "Have Yourself a Merry Upsher Christmas," with the cast singing with larger-than-life photos of Upsher-Smith's employees projected onto the set.  In seeing these pictures and experiencing this production, the audience was reminded that their year-long work was acknowledged and rewarded by their company.  Upsher-Smith was thrilled that we met their revised budget numbers, and delivered the production as needed, saying, “Thank you so much for crafting one of the best events we ever had!  Everything was far above our expectations!
